newborn baby asleep in it mothers armsNortheast Health Wangaratta (NHW) has experienced a record-breaking start to the year, welcoming 78 newborns in January 2025 an increase in over 22% from 2024, and the biggest month in recent records.

The trend is set to continue, with February 2025 predicted to be another milestone month, as 74 babies are already scheduled to arrive. This marks a significant increase compared to last year, when NHW recorded an average of 56 births per month, with over 670 babies born throughout the year.

“Our maternity team has been working tirelessly to support expecting families, ensuring each birth is as smooth and safe as possible,” said Libby Fifis, Northeast Health Wangaratta CEO. “This baby boom is a testament to the incredible care and dedication of our midwives, doctors, and support staff.”

NHW provides a supportive environment for new mums, offering 24-hour care from a team of dedicated midwives and medical specialists. The maternity ward consists of six postnatal beds, four birth suites, and a special care nursery with six cots, ensuring high-quality, personalized care for every family.
