Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) offer the opportunity for visiting medical students to undertake elective placement. NHW define visiting medical students as those who are seeking to complete a medical elective placement whilst enrolled in the final two years of a medical program at a recognised tertiary education provider (in Victoria, interstate or overseas).
The placements are for electives only, and the health service is unable to provide summative assessments or formal teaching sessions as part of these electives.
Applicants are not permitted to contact medical professionals directly to make elective placement arrangements. NHW cannot guarantee the availability of clinical placements, and may not be able to source a place for every applicant.
Type of placements potentially available upon application:
Medical, Surgical, Anaesthetics, Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Emergency Medicine and Rehab/GEM
More information
Our elective placements are clinically based allocations. Students will be expected to participate in the activities of the unit while under the supervision of hospital staff, where there will be many opportunities to engage in clinical activities in relation to patient assessment and patient care.
All elective placements are now only available for a maximum of eight weeks and a minimum of two weeks. We will try our best to accommodate your first preference; however, due to the number of applications we receive, we cannot guarantee that the clinical placements requested will always be available.
Candidates who are successful in their application will be required to undertake NHWs orientation program and submit all legal documents as required
Attendance: You are expected to attend your elective placement from Monday to Friday during normal business hours. Failure to do so will result in your attendance form being signed off only for days attended.
