Minister opens redevelopement

We welcomed the Minister for Health, Minister for Health Infrastructure, Hon Mary-Anne Thomas to NHW to mark the completion of our $23m redevelopment including the emergency department, day stay unit, medical, paediatric and maternity wards.

The expanded and upgraded medical ward added eleven extra medical meds to create two 20-bed medical inpatient units.  The final stage also saw delivery of the expanded and upgraded emergency department with more treatment spaces, an isolation room for potentially infectious patients and a behavioural assessment room.  The eight-bed short stay unit provides acute care for patients staying in the unit for less than 24 hours as well as a new 12-bed Intensive Care Unit.

Funded through the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund, Minister Thomas said “With more space to treat patients, a bigger emergency department and a new kids ward – this upgrade will ensure local residents are getting the best care, now and into the future.”

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said “The doctors and nurses do an outstanding job at Wangaratta Hospital – this upgrade will ensure that they have access to the best facilities and can continue to provide the best care to the community.”

NHW Chief Executive Officer, Libby Fifis said “We were very pleased to show the Minister through our redeveloped spaces. Our team has worked very hard over the past few years to bring this project to fruition and we thank our contractors, Zauner, for their efforts.
