Major progress has been made on Northeast Health Wangaratta’s (NHW) $22.9m redevelopment over the past month.
Contractors Zauner Constructions are carrying out the works, comprising of a 12-bed Critical Care Unit, an 8-bed short stay unit, a new paediatric ward, additional medical beds and an upgraded Emergency Department.
The Critical Care Unit now has a roof, walls and windows, and most services have begun to be installed.
The Short Stay Unit isn’t far behind, with a roof and walls in place at the structure fronting Green Street.
NHW Interim Chief Executive Officer Fiona Shanks said the progress was encouraging.
“Community members can start to see the new redevelopment really taking shape now, especially with the Critical Care Unit, which will occupy the second level structure visible from Cusack Street,” she said.
“Zauner Constructions have done an amazing job negotiating the extremely wet winter we’ve had so far.
The Short Stay Unit is due for completion in November this year, while the Critical Care Unit is scheduled to be finished in January 2022.
The remainder of the project is due to be completed at the end of 2022.
