How to refer your patient

Northeast Health Women’s clinic welcomes referrals for gynaecological concerns

Our preferred referral pathway is via the SeNT e-referral platform.

Referrals that do not include the required information will not be accepted until the referral is complete.

Gynaecology and Colposcopy referrals:

Please ensure all required information is included as per the state referral guidelines Gynaecology | health.vic.gov.au and the Northeast Health referral policy Gynaecology Clinic Referral.

Pelvic Pain clinic referrals:

Please ensure all required information is included:

Essential information:
  • All referrals must include essential demographic, medical and social history, and relevant information about the presenting complaint, including:
  • A comprehensive pain assessment
  • Current management to date, including medications, surgical history, and analgesia regimen
  • Assessment of bowel, bladder and sexual function.
Investigations:
  • Pelvic Ultrasound (within last 6 months; transvaginal or abdominal)
  • Most recent CST (if 25 years or over)
  • STI screen (unless never sexually active)
Please also consider:
  • if heavy menstrual bleeding: FBE, Ferritin
  • previous pathology testing (e.g. coeliac serology, calprotectin)
  • other specialists seen
  • relevant surgical or endoscopy reports
  • other relevant imaging: abdominal or spinal if available.

Inclusion:

  • 18 years
  • Persistent pelvic pain >3 months with symptoms suggestive of pelvic floor muscle contribution
  • Persistent pelvic pain with symptoms >3 months duration impacting daily activities (school, sport work, intimacy)
  • Readiness to engage with physiotherapy and explore self-management
  • Vaginal pain/vulvodynia/vaginismus
  • Dyspareunia
  • Vulval conditions causing pain

Exclusion:

  • Acute, severe pelvic or abdominal pain
  • We do not provide services for managing pelvic pain during pregnancy.
  • Individuals with endometriosis or pelvic pain that is well-managed.
  • Pt who already have an established multidisciplinary healthcare team via GP care.
  • Patients undergoing current cancer treatment.
  • Lower urinary tract symptoms (stress incontinence. urgency. voiding dysfunction, mixed urinary incontinence)
  • Pelvic organ prolapses stage 1 and 2
  • Functional gut disorders where obstructed defecation is an issue.

Women’s Health GP

Northeast Health Wangaratta is proud to be partnering with Gateway Health, in conjunction with Department of Health, to offer a new Women’s Health GP service, aiming to bridge the gap in women’s health care

A specialist Women’s Health GP will see you and can help with a range of non-urgent gynaecological concerns including:

  • Heavy and/or painful periods
  • Contraception and family planning
  • IUD procedure with Penthrox
  • Abortions
  • Perimenopause and menopause symptoms – not managed by your own GP
  • Pelvic pain
  • Prolapse and incontinence
  • Any other women’s health or gynaecological problems.

Important Note:

If your client is experiencing;

  • Excessive blood loss
  • Severe, debilitating abdominal or pelvic pain
  • Acute Bartholin’s abscess

Please send to the Emergency Department for urgent review.
