Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) is marking World Cancer Day by recognising the exceptional care and commitment of its Cancer and Wellness team, who support and treat nearly 800 patients each year from across the North East.
World Cancer Day is observed globally on 4 February and aims to raise awareness of cancer, encourage prevention and improve outcomes for people affected by the disease. This year’s theme, United by Unique, highlights the importance of person-centred care and recognising that every individual’s experience with cancer is different.
NHW’s Cancer and Wellness teams provide comprehensive care spanning diagnosis, treatment, chemotherapy, supportive care and follow-up, working closely with patients, families and regional partners to deliver exceptional care closer to home.
NHW Chief Executive Officer Libby Fifis said World Cancer Day was an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication and compassion shown by staff every day.
“Our Cancer and Wellness team care for hundreds of patients each year, supporting people and families through some of the most challenging times of their lives,” Ms Fifis said.
“Every patients story is unique, and our staff walk alongside them with professionalism, skill and empathy. The team not only deliver exceptional care, but also provides comfort and reassurance at a time when it is needed most”
Ms Fifis also acknowledges the trust patients and families place in NHW’s team throughout their journey. “The strength, determination and resilience of our patients is remarkable and World Cancer Day is an opportunity to honour their experience and reaffirm NHW’s dedication to delivering exceptional person centred cancer care.
NHW continues to focus on delivering safe, evidence-based cancer and wellness care while supporting patients to access treatment and services locally wherever possible.
