NHW CEO Libby Fifis appointed to Victorian Healthcare Association Board Chair

Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) Chief Executive Officer Libby Fifis has been appointed as a Board Chair of the Victorian Healthcare Association (VHA)representing regional health service CEOs.

Prior to her appointment as Board Chair, Ms Fifis was elected to the VHA Board as Director in February 2024 reflecting the confidence of the sector in her leadership and advocacy for public health services across Victoria.

In her role as CEO of Northeast Health Wangaratta, Ms Fifis leads one of Victoria’s major regional health services, overseeing the delivery of exceptional, accessible care for communities across the North East. A Registered Nurse and experienced health executive, she brings a strong background in clinical practice, system leadership, workforce reform and governance.

Ms Fifis said her involvement with the VHA reflects a strong commitment to strengthening the public health system, particularly for regional and rural communities.

“The Victorian Healthcare Association plays a critical role in representing the collective voice of public health services,” Ms Fifis said.
“I am motivated by integrity, equity and collaboration, and I am proud to contribute to sector advocacy that shapes an exceptional health system serving all Victorian communities.”

Ms Fifis said her experience leading regional health services has reinforced the importance of strong system-level advocacy to support sustainable funding, workforce capability and equitable access to care across Victoria.

Chair of the NHW Board Ruth Kneebone congratulated Ms Fifis on her appointment, noting the value of strong regional representation at a state level.

“Libby’s appointment to the VHA Board is a significant achievement and recognises her leadership, experience and deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing regional health services,” she said.

The Victorian Healthcare Association is the peak body representing Victoria’s public health services and plays a key role in influencing policy, funding and reform to support a sustainable and high-performing public health system.
