Endometriosis Awareness Month Shines a Light on Women’s Health

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, a national effort to raise understanding of this often painful and misunderstood condition that affects many women across Australia. Endometriosis can cause chronic pelvic pain, fatigue and impact fertility, and people living with it often face delayed diagnosis and treatment. In Australia, around one in nine women have been diagnosed with endometriosis by their early forties, underscoring how common this condition is in our community.

Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) is using Endometriosis Awareness Month as an opportunity to encourage local voices to help shape a new Women’s Health Clinic for the region.

Women in rural and regional areas often face significant barriers to accessing the healthcare they need such as long travel distances, limited specialists, and delayed diagnoses. The Women Health clinic is aiming to address these barriers ensuring timely access to specialised care, close to home.

As part of the planning process, NHW is inviting girls, women and gender-diverse people in the North East to share their thoughts and needs through community surveys. Your input will help ensure the clinic reflects the real priorities and experiences of the community it serves.

“Endometriosis and pelvic pain can have a significant impact on quality of life, yet access to tailored care remains a challenge for many,” said Libby Fifis, CEO at NHW.

“We want the Women’s Health Clinic to be a place that truly meets local needs, from Menopause support through to pelvic pain management. Listening to the community is central to designing services that deliver real value and support. I encourage everyone with a connection to women’s health in our region to complete our surveys and contribute to this important initiative.”

Community members can share their ideas by completing the surveys or calling the Women’s Health Clinic on 0458 760 380: northeasthealth.org.au/womans-health-clinic
