Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) is reassuring women and families in Benalla and across the North East that safe, high-quality birthing services remain available at NHW.
Recent media reports may have caused some confusion about where women residing in Benalla can give birth. Women have the right to choose where they give birth, and NHW remains a trusted option for many families across the region.
“Our maternity service has a proud history of supporting women from Benalla, Mansfield, Yarrawonga, the Alpine region and beyond,” said Bernadette Hammond, Executive Director Clinical Operations. “We are committed to providing care closer to home and ensuring women feel supported and respected in their choices.”
NHW continues to partner closely with neighbouring health services to strengthen maternity care across the region. The focus is on collaboration ensuring every woman has access to the right care, in the right place, at the right time. More recently, NHW specialist obstetricians and senior midwives have worked closely with non-birthing maternity services across the region to develop a model of care to enable women to access the bulk of their antenatal care closer to home whilst only needing to travel to NHW to birth or for antenatal visits where more specialised care is required.
“Our priority is always the wellbeing of mothers and babies,” Ms Hammond said. “At NHW, we will continue to provide high-quality birthing services, with experienced clinicians, modern facilities, and a commitment to patient-centred care.”
