If you have diabetes or are at risk of developing diabetes, our team of educators can work with you, your family/carer to identify appropriate goals and help you develop skills to self-manage your condition.

Diabetes Education

Diabetes educators can increase your understanding of risk factors and how to look after yourself by:

  • Teaching you why it is important to monitor the amount of sugar in your blood
  • Teaching you when to test your blood
  • Providing information on medications for diabetes
  • Teaching you how to manage your medications to maintain your sugar levels
  • Offering information on how you can manage your sugar levels when you are sick
  • Providing information on how healthy eating and exercise can help keep you well
  • Helping you to avoid other health problems
  • Explaining how you can avoid low and high sugar levels if you have type 1 diabetes
  • Teaching you how to manage type 1 diabetes with the Dose Adjustment For Normal Eating (DAFNE) program.
