The $22.9m redevelopment of Northeast Health Wangaratta is on track for completion by Christmas 2022.

Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas visited NHW to celebrate the completion of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Short Stay Unit on Thursday, 14 July.

Both the Short Stay Unit and ICU are complete and operational, with current construction activity now focused on the next stage of the project, involving expansions of the Medical Ward, Paediatric Ward and Emergency Department.

“We thank the Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas for visiting our health service today and celebrating the completion of the ICU and Short Stay Unit,” NHW CEO Libby Fifis said.

“The redevelopment is providing us with state-of-the-art facilities to match the quality care provided by our clinicians.”

In addition to the redevelopment, NHW is also carrying out refurbishment works to the Maternity Unit and replacing the entire roof on the main part of the hospital.

With this high level of construction activity NHW is urging community members to be patient and understanding when attending the hospital.

“There will be disruptions, particularly with construction noise as this project continues,” Ms Fifis said.

“We thank patients for their understanding. It is not long now and these works will be complete. The end result will be a health service with expanded, state-of-the-art facilities to serve our community well into the future.”
