The Board Chair of Northeast Health Wangaratta, Mr Jonathan Green, has announced the appointment of Mr Tim Griffiths as Northeast Health Wangratta’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Mr Griffiths has been the Interim CEO at NHW since the departure of the previous CEO, Margaret Bennett, earlier this year.

In making the announcement, Mr Green said ‘On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am delighted that we have appointed Tim after a competitive recruitment process. Tim has made an outstanding contribution to NHW as both the Interim CEO and, for the five years prior to that, as our Deputy CEO.

Mr Griffiths has a long history of achievement as a senior health executive and he will continue to provide the strong, supportive, visionary and ethical leadership that will enable our great NHW team to further build on the considerable strengths of our service in meeting the care needs of the communities in northeast Victoria.’

Prior to his appointment at NHW, Mr Griffiths’ executive leadership roles have included appointments as the General Manager of the Bionics Institute, where he transformed the organisation that subsequently went on to develop Australia’s first prototype Bionic eye. Prior to this, Mr Griffiths was the General Manager of the Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind where he project managed the merger of three largest blindness agencies in Australia – creating Vision Australia.

Mr Griffiths’ leadership and service background also includes his appointment and commitment as an officer in the Royal Australian Navy.

In reference to the current environment, Mr Green stated, ’Of particular note, has been Mr Griffiths’ strong, steady and resilient leadership of our health service during this very challenging ongoing Pandemic period’.

In responding to the announcement, Mr Griffiths said ‘I feel a great sense of privilege and excitement to be appointed as the CEO. I love NHW, and I am fully committed to leading our fabulous team, and further strengthening NHW’s service to the community and region we serve.  I am confident that together we will face the joys and challenges of the time ahead with strength, resilience and optimism’.
