Elective surgery suspended

As a COVID-19 (Coronavirus) protective measure, Northeast Heath Wangaratta, in consultation with surgeons, anaesthetists and senior clinical staff has introduced a plan to address the provision of elective surgery.

Executive Director of Medical Services, Dr David Cooper, said only emergency and (Category 1) and urgent Category 2 elective surgeries will be performed at Northeast Health Wangaratta from midnight March 25th until further notice.

“All elective surgery OTHER THAN Category 1 and urgent Category 2 cases will be suspended at public hospitals. Therefore Northeast Health Wangaratta will be suspending these services immediately. Private hospital elective Category 3 surgery will continue until the first week of April”, Dr Cooper said

NHW is currently contacting all patients affected by this suspension of public elective surgery.
