Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) will place an Expression of Interest on Tenders Victoria today for the lead contractor to undertake the $23m redevelopment of the hospital.

This has been the culmination of two years of consultation and planning with staff, community and our appointed consultants. Early in the new year, NHW will proceed to the formal tender process and intends to start construction before Easter.

Margaret Bennett, CEO said, ‘this has been a long-awaited announcement for NHW, and I am delighted to formally call for Expression of Interest for a builder. The outcome will see the establishment of a new 12 bed Critical Care Unit above Radiology, significant expansion of the Emergency Department, including the establishment of an eight-bed Short Stay Unit, a new Paediatric Unit and additional Medical Ward beds, to meet our ever-expanding demand from the central Hume region.’

NHW Board Chair, Jonathan Green said, ‘the Board of Directors are excited to commence the next phase of this long-awaited project, which will deliver new and additional treatment spaces and beds for the North East Victorian community we are privileged to serve.’

Expression of Interest will close on 20/01/20, and a formal tender process will follow shortly after. NHW hopes that this will create employment opportunities for local businesses and tradespeople.
