The new app designed for pregnant women and breastfeeding mums.
The successful ‘Communities Latching onto Breastfeeding’ campaign, launched in 2013 has seen some great advances in developing a supportive environment for breastfeeding mothers in our region and now a new smartphone app has taken this campaign to the next level.
The launch of the new app co-insides with World Breastfeeding Week (1 – 7 AUGUST) #WBW2018 and is designed to help mothers have a positive breastfeeding experience by providing a guide to services available in our region including where to find breastfeeding-friendly cafes and venues, feed & change facilities plus links to more information and what to expect during your pregnancy and breastfeeding journey.
“Technology is moving so fast, and there was an opportunity to create an app, which would enable the campaign and the information associated with it, more accessible to all mothers in the Wangaratta and Wodonga areas.” said Ms Colman of Gateway Health “The main objective for this campaign and the new app is to educate women about the health benefits for both mum and baby and to increase the number of mothers exclusively breastfeeding for at least the first three months.”
Health Promotion officers, Laura Tonkin of Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) and Gateway Health’s Jess Colman have been working in collaboration since 2012, promoting health and well-being in our region. “Our aim is to create supportive environments to help our community make healthier choices and the ‘Communities Latching onto Breastfeeding’ campaign is just one of many initiatives that we are currently developing, and there is a lot more to come.” said Ms Tonkin.
The app is available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store for Android, by searching “breastfeeding gateway”.
