Graduate Nurse Applications- Registered Nurses

Applications for the following 2018 Graduate Nurse positions are now open:

  • General Nursing (22 positions available)
  • Double Degree Nursing/Midwifery (2 positions available)
  • Double Degree Nursing/Paramedicine (1 position available)

Part-time 0.8 FTE positions offered.
Individual and group interviews will be conducted for all positions.
External rotations and honours program are available by negotiation only.
We welcome calls to organise an appointment for a tour and information session.

General Nursing

Numerous intake dates from January 2018

Selection Criteria:

  1. Letter of application
  2. Completed NHW Employment Statutory Declaration
  3. CV, including placement  history and 2 professional/clinical referees (please include email addresses)
  4. Certified copy of academic transcript with results legend
  5. Passport sized photograph
  6. Two most recent acute (not Aged Care) clinical placement reports.
  7. Current Police and Working with Children checks to be presented at interview. Along with current immunisation record.

Double Degree Nursing/Midwifery

Double degree Nursing/Midwifery Graduates will be offered a streamed rotational  program, with two 6 month rotations across the Surgical and Maternity Units.  Within the Maternity rotation there may be the opportunity to work across Antenatal and Postnatal services, Labour Ward and Special Care Nursery.

  6. Two most recent acute (including 1 x Midwifery focused) clinical placement reports.
  7. Current Police and Working with Children checks to be presented at interview. Along with current immunisation record.

Double Degree Nursing/Paramedicine

Double degree Nursing/Paramedicine Graduates will be offered a streamed rotational  program, with 12 months of emergency care nursing.  Two 6 month rotations are offered across the NHW Emergency Department and the Urgent Care Centre at Benalla Health.

Graduate Nurse Program general information

Northeast Health offers first year registered nurses a unique and exciting program designed to expose them to a diverse range of clinical experiences. Our graduate nurse program gives you the opportunity to care for patients with varying needs in one of the six regional health services within the Central Hume Region.

Health services in the Central Hume Region

Each of the regional health services offers a supportive environment so that nurses in the program can consolidate and further develop knowledge and skills and prepare for future career opportunities.

The seven health services within the Central Hume Region have a collaborative approach and coordinate their graduate nurse programs by sharing their recruitment processes and professional development programs. The health services where you can complete the program are:

  • Northeast Health Wangaratta
  • Benalla Health
  • Yarrawonga Health
  • Mansfield District Hospital
  • Alpine Health
  • Tallangatta Health
  • Cooinda Village

Rotations

Graduates at NHW are offered 2 x 6 month rotations across the health facility. Rotations available include:

  • Medical
  • Surgical
  • Thomas Hogan Rehabilitation Centre
  • Emergency
  • Critical Care
  • Illoura Residential Aged Care
  • District Nursing
  • Oncology
  • Theatre
  • Admissions & Day Stay
  • Pool
  • Maternity (for dual degree Nursing/Midwifery Graduates only)

When you join the graduate nurse program, you can participate in our innovative inter-hospital rotations. You will have the chance to spend 6 months of your graduate year in another hospital to further expand your diverse range of experiences and skills.

When you complete the graduate nurse program, you will be invited to apply for a second-year rotation program. If you are successful in your application, you will be offered a further 12-month contract with two more 6-month rotations.

Northeast Health Wangaratta also offers postgraduate studies if you choose to specialise in midwifery or rural critical care.

Pre-employment workshop

Before you begin the graduate nurse program, you will be given the opportunity to participate in a pre-employment workshop. This workshop offers you the:

  • chance to meet other new graduates
  • opportunity to meet the education team
  • opportunity to gain valuable insight into the year ahead of you.
